When watching these films, the main foods these individuals would intake is fried foods, candy, cookies, soda, and overall greasy foods. They weren’t showing healthy snacks such as carrots, apples or even grapes. These individuals were eating 10 times the recommended amount of food an individual should eat. This addiction is known as dopamine, which is released by hormones when eating a particular type of food and it makes the individual want more. This particular problem has affected these individuals which has lead them to become obese. Some of these individuals don’t have control of what they eat and are in denial. Others have found ways of losing weight by getting a surgery but they gained all the weight back by not measuring the amount of food they intake. Professor Dulai has also mentioned that the amounts of calories we take in are to help us have energy throughout the day. None of these individuals did anything to release the energy so the amount of calories stayed in their body which leads to fat cells multiplying when gaining weight. I come to a conclusion that an individual must stay healthy by eating a particular amount of calories and having a variety of colors in their foods. In doing so Noboru grows heartless, savage, and reconfirms his indifference towards the world. Psychology in this novel is possibly the biggest factor revolving around character development in The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea. From Ryuji’s transformation from a sailor to a father in the Summer and Winter parts of the novel to Fusako being a single mother turned married wife, it’s no doubt that Noboru changed as well. In the premise of the novel, Noboru is introduced as a thirteen-year-old boy living under a roof supported by his mother who owns a luxury boutique store. With his father passing away five years ago, Noboru has grown up only under his mother’s influence (Mishima 8). Lacking the male figure that usually guides the boy, the struggle for â€Å"happiness† in Noboru has led to his acceptance of objectivity in place of it. With no father figure present during his childhood, Mishima presents this as the foundation for Noboru’s ulterior motives later on in the plot. The deficiency of family dynamics is stark within this novel. With no authority being put upon Noboru, it allows him to be irrational and wild. However, since he is a self-proclaimed genius, his freedom is spent in silence that later transitions into his ulterior motives. With the introduction of Second Mate Ryuji Tsukazaki into the life of the Kuroda family, it catalyzes character development. Fusako, Noboru’s mother, begins to rekindle her love life and later on marries Ryuji. Noboru on the other hand, idealizes Tsukazaki as liberal, masculine, disciplined, and without weak effeminate characteristics. With praise to Ryuji as his new â€Å"male figure†, it psychologically develops a sense of attachment and appreciation for him. Such instances occurred when Ryuji came back from his duties at sea and brought back a present for Noboru. Typically, the boy would be indifferent towards such a generous act given his nature but he responded in a sense of excitement (Mishima 102). With emotions conflicting inside Noboru, it develops a feeling of acceptance and reformats the family dynamics within the Kuroda household (Mishima 144). Ryuji, however, begins to grow soft due to newly being a father. This course of action labels him as a â€Å"fallen hero† among Noboru and his gang. With a brutal discussion about fathers such as â€Å"fathers are evil itself, laden with everything ugly in Man†, it presents the idea of â€Å"making Ryuji a hero again (Mishima 136). † A meeting like this with the cult of objectionists alters Noboru’s mentality further on into the novel. With a final betrayal from Ryuji due to the sailor acting in a fatherly manner, Noboru confirms that his once praised hero is hopeless (Mishima 158). This last test of redemption that fails leads to the disappointment in Noboru, following up with the chief’s plan to make Ryuji a hero again. The psychological factors at play constantly reshape within Noboru. With each â€Å"betrayal† from Ryuji, Noboru mentally notes them and his anger builds up within. When it finally reaches a maximum limit, Noboru’s objectionist philosophy is put into full initiative. The life of the once heroic sailor is ended with an ironic finale (Mishima 181). In a gist, Noboru Kuroda’s transformation throughout the novel has simply been abominable. From the premise of innocence to the macabre product of what he has become, the thirteen-year-old boy could not be blamed for his actions. Through being put in the onset of maturity while struggling with his social conventions as well as the ongoing psychological factors regarding his deficiency in family dynamics; the corruption of Noboru in his coming of age is well described by Mishima in his novel. Yukio’s usage of death as being â€Å"perfect† (Mishima 61) provides an eerie atmosphere for the reader as his central character deals with the ire provided by his life. Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin was an American printer and publisher, author, inventor, scientist, and who was a diplomat born on January 17th 1706 and died in Philadelphia on April 17th 1790. Franklin was one of ten sons of seventeen children of a man by the name of Josiah who was a soap and candle maker and mother by the name of Abiah, a discrete and virtuous woman (Van Doren 7). Ben was raised in a Puritan heritage household which they had left to avoid England's Restoration Era of 1683. Franklin had a blend of Puritan heritage, Enlightenment philosophy, and New World environment ideals. Ben Franklin had a fascination public and interpersonal life. Franklin's life consisted of his reflections of his own behaviors and embracing curiosities of the whole moral and physical world around him (Ford 60-64). Ben married in September 1st 1730 to a woman by the name of Deborah Read. Franklin was an apprentice under his brother and a printer of a Boston newspaper called the Pennsylvania Gazette, the Almanac of Poor Richard and a good share of printing in that era (Van Doren 69). Communication is vital to any organization as it constitute the life of the entire organization while culture is the essence of an organization. When the management becomes concern on results and outcomes rather than on the techniques and processes, the management becomes concern only on employees’ productivity but not with their welfare. Business organization should be people oriented and its written communication or its policies must be clearly and rightly enforce and should not hinder employees from enhancing their full productivity potential. Maydan (2003) pointed out that organizations, as entities, â€Å"are also embedded in cultures, and organizing is a communication process† (p. 1). In a sense, organizational culture and policies it self are both part of communication. Thus, poor policies and policies that are poorly enforced both affects the organizational performance as well as the organizational life of business organization. It means that the employees’ effectiveness is affected by poor implementation of policies such as limiting employee’s communication with other employees in other departments and also employees’ access to management because it effectively isolate them from people they perceive as source of moral strength and information. Aggressiveness on the other hand is an important character of any employee. People who are aggressive are competitive and achieved more. It is far desirable than easy going attitude. Enron electricity traders were manipulating the market strategies to extract more money from the state. They were also involved in megawatt laundering, in which Enron bought power in California, resold the power out of the state and then bought the power back and resold it back into California, allowing Enron to avoid price caps meant to secure down costs (4). The electricity traders are also guilty of limiting the supply of energy by asking power plants that provide electricity to California to shut done for a specified period of time so they could take advantage of the shortages. All the while President Bush is refusing to step in to do anything stating the energy crisis will work itself out. The approval was granted subject to a number of conditions, in particular, the need to comply with the provisions of the: i. Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 ii. Environmental Quality Act 1974. Compliance Requirements 1. The Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984 is administered by the Atomic Energy 2. 3. Licensing Board (AELB). Among other things, the AELB monitors and assesses the radiological impact of the Lynas project through all stages of construction and operation. This includes matters relating to radiation protection (occupational, public and environmental), safety, waste management, transportation, decommissioning and remediation. The Department of Environment (DOE) is the implementing agency for the Environmental Quality Act 1974. The Act governs issues related to the prevention, abatement and control of pollution and enhancement of the environment (other than radioactive material and radioactive waste). The safety standards and good practice requirements enforced by the two regulatory bodies are similar to or equivalent to those recognised internationally. Compliance status 1. Lynas began planning and construction of its plant at Gebeng Industrial Estate, 2. Pahang soon after obtaining its manufacturing licence. In April 2011, the company announced that construction had reached the 40% stage and was on target for completion by September, 2011. The AELB confirms that Lynas has complied with all health and safety standards required of the company to date. A site licence and a construction licence have been issued accordingly. The next stage in the multi-tiered approval process requires Lynas to apply to the AELB for a pre-operating licence. To date, the company has not made a submission to the AELB for this purpose. Upon receiving a pre-operating licence, the company will then be required to apply for and obtain an operating licence before it can commence full operations. 3. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report on the project was approved by 4. 5. the Department of Environment on 15 February 2008. The Department confirms that Lynas has complied with all requirements of the EIA approval to date. The Radiological Impact Assessment (RIA) conducted by the Nuklear Malaysia affirms that operation of the proposed Lynas plant would not pose any radiological risk to workers and members of the public living in the areas surrounding the site beyond what is allowed by the regulatory authorities. Nuklear Malaysia also affirms that the projected radiation exposure levels in the Lynas plant for workers (average of 2 mSv/yr) and members of the public (0. 02 mSv/yr) are within the limits set by AELB. Decision to appoint Independent Panel of International Experts 1. On 22 April, 2011, however, following widespread public concern about the safety of 2. the project, the Government announced a decision to appoint an independent panel of international experts to review all health and safety aspects of the project. Decommissioning and environmental remediation On 13 May, 2011, the Government announced details of the IAEA-appointed panel. The panel consists of a leader and nine members: four from the IAEA, and five from IAEA member countries. Major role in the novel Essay The death of Victors mother was due to self-sacrifice whilst nursing Elizabeth with scarlet fever. This left Victor in a single- parented family; something that many families today are facing. Victor develops an un-natural obsession with his mother, often referred to as the Oedipus Complex, and he continues this worship even after she has died. This is perhaps when Victors obsessive behaviour, something we all fear today, starts, as he becomes entangled in a web of his possessive love for Elizabeth and his personal drive in his work. Victor is perhaps so possessive over Elizabeth because he sees her as his own belonging after she is presented to him by his mother, shown here; Interpreted her words literally and looked upon Elizabeth as mine- mine to protect, love and cherish. (Ch1, pg36, line2) We can relate to this through the role that the possession and belonging of items, or loved ones plays in our lives; we become jealous at the very thought of losing them. Tragic irony plays a poignant but major role in the novel. Victor Frankenstein grows up surrounded by the death of his own family and those around him affected by the cholera epidemic. He feels the remorse and suffering caused by this natural event and consequently doesnt want the ones he loves to feel the same pain that he has gone through. From this, he develops an obsession with creating an immortal being; a person composed of the finest ligaments, so that no one would ever have to suffer the pain of losing someone so dear again. Through doing this, he is believed to have cheated death and nature and subsequently results in killing the ones he was initially trying to save. We can relate to this today as we are enduring death everyday and can identify with the loss that Frankenstein feels. An obvious notable factor in the book is the lack of family religion. Many people, not only at the time of publication, but also today think that if a family do not believe or have God in their lives then they will be punished, and they are seen as lesser people if they have no spirituality. In the book, it is as if we are playing God; like Him, we have the ability to decide the fate of the people, like the courts of justice. If someone today commits a horrendous crime then we have the power to lock them, just like in the novel, where society and the monster are able to decide the fate of the characters, for example, when Justine is hung unfairly without trial after she is accused of murdering Willy, as she pleads guilty although innocent; I did confess; but I confessed a lie. (Ch8, pg87, line7) We are also like God today, and can relate to Victor Frankenstein in that he tries to create a faultless being. The modern audience are acquainted with genetic engineering and as we are always making scientific advances, like at the time of publication, the fear of the unknown is still very relevant today. Just like Frankenstein, who attempts to eliminate something that isnt perfect, we today have the power to do this through abortion and also are able to perfect a child before it is born, dismissing blemishes by choosing the colour of their eyes or skin. We are currently making mistakes in this area and will result in paying for this blasphemy and already are. The moral of the story is to accept life for what it is, if not we will create the ultimate evil, embodied by the monster. Mary Shelleys Frankenstein can therefore relate as much to a modern audience as a contempary audience at the time of publication, due to specific devices and themes that are used by the author to prevent it becoming stagnated and topics that hold an area of interest for the viewers.
